There was a time when my father shared these words with me…”son, I get up everyday and I work doing something I like. It’s hard work though and it’s stressful. I hope you and your brother both go to college and do something else.” While attempting to steer us clear of a business that had become his livelihood, he ultimately showed us both that hard work and perseverance will pay off every time. It’s interesting to me that we both gravitated to the business. I can’t tell you why my brother ended up here because I typically refrain from speaking for others. For me, I wanted to see my old man retire. Today I know that will never happen and I’m ultimately glad that I failed at this goal. I have found creativity to be an individual as well as ways to impact others which are two of my biggest life goals. Parents try and shape their kids futures with words but in the end, it’s our actions that shape them. The hard work, the perseverance, the way we manage adversity, the paths we take and the way we love. Earl didn’t know he was secretly showing us that we would understand that hard work and success go hand in hand but he did and thats pretty rad.
